Lake City officer arrested on drug charges

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A Lake City police officer has been charged after authorities say he helped drug dealers in the area.

William Webb, 40, of Olanta was arrested Tuesday without incident, officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

Webb, a police officer since 1991, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute powder cocaine and crack cocaine, officials said.

Webb was arrested after a joint investigation of the FBI, the State Law Enforcement Division, the Florence County sheriff's office and the Lake City Police Department into allegations of public corruption in Lake City.
