West Point police officer charged with sex crimes

A West Point police officer was arrested yesterday on allegations of raping and sodomizing a woman while on duty last Sunday.

Patrolman John E. Cottrell, 36, who lives in Shepherdsville, was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and sodomy in the first degree, according to Kentucky State Police.
